Hildegard as Prophet
“Soelle draws another lesson from the Divine Mother that's congruent with Hildegard's emphasis on the "web of life" of all creation. For her, this is the real meaning of transcendence in a feminist worldview, for "in feminist theology, therefore, the issue is not about exchanging pronouns but about another way of thinking of transcendence. Transcendence is no longer to be understood as being independent of everything and ruling over everything else, but rather as being bound up in the web of life... That means that we move from God-above-us to God-within-us and overcome false transcendence hierarchically conceived."" Surely Hildegard does this when she says that "God is life to the fullest and speaks of the Holy Spirit bringing about the creative "greening power" within us all. Truly she is in touch with this "God within," which constitutes true transcendence.”
